It is super empowering to experience the freedom offered in simple, fun movement.
The expressive art of hoop dance is new to many people, but you may be surprised to learn about just how many men and women alike (and of all ages), all around the world, are reaping major benefits from the joy it brings through moving the body, and the stress relief it provides!
While the traditional hula hoop tends to bring up some fun (and silly) connotations born from the time when it was a toy store boom, hula hooping is actually an age-old inclination for humans. The history goes back further than Wham-O if you look it up; people all over the world have been making them out of plant and other natural materials in various parts of the world, since quite a long time ago.
Circles have no beginning and no end, and lend themselves to continuous, flowy, natural movement. The Earth spins. Wheels turn. According to the Chakra System of the body, our energy moves in continous circular, spiraling currents. Moving with a hoop brings us into a state that feels natural to us, and wakes up our bodies. That's why it is so enjoyable!
Hoop dance now is a fun and empowering medium of expression which has the potential (and tendency) to reveal your own unique style of dance, which makes it easy to exercise naturally… how your body really wants to move around!
No wonder Hoop Dance has shown to be transformative for countless people.
The number of lives touched by this friendly circle is growing rapidly; the growth potential it unlocks through exploratory movement with it is astounding.
It is also very beneficial for children to have as an activity to explore, as it is an amazing creative outlet for them. Children get to have fun in their own space, learn new ideas and movements, and have a great time creating their own expression through dancing with the hoop. Not only is it a great way to move around and use up energy to get good exercise - it is a wonderful way to develop hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, gain focus, build true confidence, cultivate happiness, express oneself, and connect with innate sense of rhythm.
It is a platform through which they can experience positive interactions in a group by sharing an activity, and it is also something that they can enjoy all on their own.
If you or someone you know feels called to give hoop dance a try, I hope you and/or they do. It has been extremely rewarding for me, and so many other people, in finding balance in life.
Thanks so much for reading, and I hope this has been helpful for you in learning more about some of the benefits hoop dance offers!

- Hoop Dancing can be practiced by most anyone, and is for people of ALL ages (I've seen SO many people completely suprise themselves with this!)
- Special dance and fitness hoops are made differently than typical toy store hoops - they are usually bigger in diameter and made with heavier tubing, making them much easier to spin and sustain
- Hooping on the waist is just ONE aspect of hoop dance - not the only way to dance with it.
- You make it your own - There are many kinds of movements and unique ways to develop and expand your hoop dance practice.
- Resources - techniques are learned to find different ways to move with it, but ultimately it is about your discovery through play and exploration. It can be extremely helpful to have a coach/guide/teacher assist you in finding your groove through the hoop - and doing it with friends is a great way to have fun with it and keep learning as well!
- There are various categories of movement with the hoop - terminology referring to planes of movement and what kind of techniques (on-body, off-body, etc.)
- A really great self-care tool - It can be a simple activity applied as a practical, meditative, centering practice in your everyday life.
- Brings about presence, and feeling of being "in the moment" as it directly responds to your movement
- Great modality to find your flow state and strengthen there
- Invigorating workout
- While learning new movements with your body, you expand your physical repetoire and develop more coordination through newly opened energy pathways.
- Hoop dance brings joy into people's lives...
- You get out of it what you put into it,
- just like most things in life :-)
